Head of Sports Science appointment

The Academy Board is pleased to announce the appointment of new Head of Sports Science Tony Bryson.

The new position will involve Tony working with all age groups from 13s to 19s in the Academy throughout the season to deliver pre-defined Sports Science input which is specific to the needs of each age-group. The main role for the Head of Sports Science is to develop and deliver a practical continuous approach to the use of Sports Science throughout the whole Academy.

Tony will work alongside the Academy’s Head of Physiotherapy, Dan Thompson and they will work with other Sports Science team members, which include a Fitness Therapist, a student Physiotherapist and a team of 4 Sports Science Assistants.

Tony, who is from Ayr originally, began working with the Academy 14 months ago and primarily worked with our older age groups, however in his new role he will have access to all of our teams. Tony graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Sports Coaching from Abertay University in Dundee. He studied various subjects during his four years including: psychology, physiology, anthropometrics and biomechanics, gaining knowledge which he will put to good use within the Academy.

Head of Youth Development, Davie White, said:

“Tony’s appointment is an important one. We are committed to an integrated Sports Science approach as part of our football development programme and Tony is already showing the commitment and enthusiasm that convinces me that we can raise our performance levels in next season’s step up to Performance status”

Tony (pictured above) had this to say about his appointment:

“I have been working with the AUFA for 16 months and I am excited about the challenge ahead. I look forward to working with all the young players in the Academy and helping them to develop their game preparation and overall fitness.

The use of sports science techniques within football is something which I am very passionate about. I am excited by the challenge of working here at Ayr United, the club which I have supported from a young age. I will need help as there will be a heavy workload and I have most of my team members in place, but if anyone out there feels that he or she would like to help, please contact me on Tony.bryson@aufa.org.uk ”

We congratulate Tony on his appointment and look forward to the great work he will be doing with our teams.
