Aberdeen U13s v Ayr United U13s
AUFA U13’s kicked off their season with a trip North to take on Aberdeen at Balgownie playing fields. This match marked the beginning of a new era for the 13s as they played their first game in the performance tier with their new head coach Declyn Cooper.
The 1st period saw the home side dominate possession and create numerous chances. However Ayr created their first chance midway through the 1st period when the Dons keeper moved sharply to make a smart save. This spurred the Ayr boys into action and a couple more decent chances were created. The 1st goal of the game came from the home side after a further period of pressure. A looped shot just beat Ayr goalkeeper, David Miller.
The second period saw an improved performance from Ayr who kept their shape better than they had done in the 1st period. However, on a sweltering hot day and on a wide surface, fitness began to tell and Aberdeen began to show their superiority by creating and converting numerous scoring opportunities.
The game ended in defeat for Ayr; however there are some positives to be taken out of the match. There are also clear areas for development that the coaches will be working on with the boys in training over the coming weeks.
