Academy 19s v Queen of the South 19s
Ayr United 19s picked up their first win of the new season with a 2-1 victory over Stirling Albion in Prestwick.
Unfortunately the first half was a rather stuffy affair with neither team getting into their rhythm and although Stirling had the better of the possession, the first half finished all square.
Ayr started the second half a lot stronger and took the lead on 66 minutes with Crossan and Paterson worked a good one two, with Paterson running in on goal and coolly finishing wide of the Stirling keeper. However Ayr only held on to the lead for 3 minutes when Stirling equalised with a direct free kick.
The third goal of the game came in the 71st minute when McCubbin ( pictured ) played in Paterson and his goal bound shot was helped into the net by the Stirling defender.
That finished the scoring and Ayr saw the game out game to win by two goals to one. Ayr United coach, Tom Robertson said after the game; ‘Despite the result that is definitely not the level and standard I expect from the lads and they know that. The quality and work rate was not nearly good enough and there is lots to work on at training this week. However we did get the victory when we were definitely nowhere near our best and that is a positive to take from the game.’
