The Ayr United Football Academy Board is pleased to confirm the appointment of Roddy MacDonald, (pictured), as Community Projects Manager.
Roddy, a three times graduate of the University of Strathclyde with a Masters Degree from the Graduate Business School, is the former Head of Community Development of South Ayrshire Council and was the Council’s representative on the Academy Board, whilst occupying that position.
David Watson, Managing Director of the Academy stated:
“Roddy will be a huge asset to the charity and brings with him a wealth of experience and a proven track record in working effectively with communities. I am sure that his appointment will allow the Academy to build on the successful foundations which have been laid here at Somerset Park over the last five years.”
The role of Community Projects Manager will be to work with a small team of volunteers and employees to develop community projects based around football activity. Their aim is to provide a wide range of participants, who not in normal circumstances would have access to the kind of healthy activity that the Community Projects team will deliver.
Roddy said:
“I am looking forward to the challenge of growing the Academy’s programmes in number and to reaching out to groups of children and adults who have not yet experienced the benefits of the current programmes. I particularly wanted to secure a community based role at this stage of my career and this position ticks all of the boxes. I look forward to working with my Academy team and to meeting the stakeholders, many of whom I have already established strong relationships with in my past life.”
