Ayr 19’s start the season with a hard fought draw

Queen of the South 19s v Ayr United 19s

Ayr United 19s had the perfect start to their opening league game taking the lead after just two minutes with an excellently worked goal. The move started at the back with Neil Slooves who worked a triangle with Alan Murdoch and Stephen Hutchinson. Hutchinson then who fed a brilliant through ball to Roddy Paterson, who ran in on goal before squaring the ball for Dillon Dunn to slot home.

The game was end to end for the rest of the first half, with Queens getting an equaliser just before the break.

Ayr started the second half well, with lots of possession, and deservedly got back in the lead with a stunning 25 yard strike from Roddy Paterson (pictured). However the home team were not to be denied, and got the equaliser through a penalty, when Murdoch was judged to have impeded the Queens striker. Both sides continued to play good football and look for a winner, but the game ended all square.

Ayr United coach, Tom Robertson said after the game; ‘The lads got punished for a couple of errors and it’s these small errors that we need to work on to stop them happening, but overall it was a very pleasing performance. The work-rate and attitude was spot on, and the quality at times very decent. There are plenty positives to take from the game and work on.’
