Academy 17s v Queens Park 17s
The academy 17s entertained a strong and very well organised Queens Park side at Prestwick Academy on Sunday. After a fairly even opening 25 minutes Ayr took the lead when an excellent strike from Alan Forrest smashed off the bar and Craig McCracken (pictured) was on hand to tap in the rebound. However Queens Park rallied towards the end of the half and managed to score two goals in as many minutes to take the lead at the interval. Ayr started the 2nd half brightly and scored through Alan Forrest, when he smashed the ball in from 20 yards. Unfortunately Ayr were unable to keep the scores level for long as Queens Park went up the field from kick off to take the lead again. With Ayr pushing for the equaliser, Queens Park sealed victory late on when their player tapped the ball into the net from a few yards.
After the game Academy coach Jamie McCrae said ‘the commitment and work rate the boys showed was excellent but some of the defending was poor. We really need to stop giving away cheap goals and it’s something we’ll work on in training’.
