Ayr United v Prestwick

This was a terribly disappointing game, for many reasons. In terms of organisation and teamwork, we lost the way, especially in defence. However, as Coaches of a new team, we always look to take something positive out of a game, no matter how bad the overall performance.

So the positive aspect of this game was that our attacking game improved (as discussed in my previous match report) and we managed to do what we hadn’t done in many games – Score! The goal actually made the score 1-1 at that time in the game. It came from an excellent through ball from Chelsea Nicholson (pictured) for Chanelle Hillhouse to use her blistering pace to drive on and hit a driven low shot past the diving keeper. We continued to cause problems throughout the game and Chanelle actually had a similar chance which narrowly went past the post.

The absence of Hannah Davies (our long term goalkeeper) did make a difference, but the volunteer player Rhianna Cannell tried really hard and did exceptionally well in difficult circumstances. It was her first time ever in goals, and that’s why she got the Player of the Match. Just a bump in the road towards overall improvement: but many lessons to be learnt.
