Hamilton Accies v Ayr United

Ayr started this game at the tempo they finished the previous week, taking the game to Hamilton right from the off. The first minute of the game saw Cobi Welsh driving forward before shooting which the keeper saved and Danielle Nicholson could only put the rebound past the post. Ten minutes later Ayr broke the deadlock through a goal from Amy Miller who got on the end of Danielle’s cross. Hamilton responded immediately with a breakaway goal. Ayr didn’t let this goal effect the way they went about their business and continued to go forwards in numbers. Cobi continued to dominate the midfield and got a quick fire double. Hamilton again responded immediately with a goal to make it 3-2. Cobi got her a hat-trick with a bullet header from Amy’s corner. As half time approached Ayr continued to knock the ball about with confidence and a neat one-two between Emma Robertson and Amy saw Emma find the bottom corner with her shot to make it 5-2 at half time.

The second half was played in the same manner as the first, with Ayr continuing to dominate proceedings.  Cobi again scored with a header from a corner, this time the delivery coming in from Danielle. Danielle was next to get on the score sheet when she pulled a ball out of mid air and hit it sweetly on the half volley to leave the goalie no chance. Emma got her second of the day, goal of the day, when Danielle played a corner back perfectly to her and from about 25 yards she let fly first time and the ball flew into the top corner. Emma scored her third soon after. The next goal came from a great through ball from Hannah McSorley (pictured) that found Nicole Storrie who calmly slotted the ball home. Danielle also grabbed herself a second with a few minutes remaining and yet Emma still found time to score her fourth of the day with a low shot drilled across the keeper.

Andy McMath spoke on his team’s performance afterwards “I was delighted with today’s performance from the whole team, everyone played their part. The tempo we played with today was just too fast for Hamilton to handle and this meant we were able to create chance after chance. Next weekend against East Kilbride should make for a good match, but we will need to play with the same intensity as today to make sure we compete with them.”
