Summation of AUFA Walking Football Part 2
The second half of the WF Season for AUFA saw them host their own Annual Tournament for the second consecutive season.
This year saw 12 teams taking part, including Hearts FC, first timers SFA, Stewarton, Annan FC, North West, Glasgow Sport, North Lanarkshire Leisure, SA Ayr United and 4 Ayr United Teams, AUFA Beresford, AUFA Honest Men, AUFA Somerset and AUFA Parkhouse.
The 12 team 6-a-side tourney was superbly organised and ran like clockwork on the day. AUFA Beresford came out of their section as a semi-finalist and narrowly losing out were AUFA Honest Men who also performed very well on the day.
The other two AUFA teams also competed well and narrowly failing to qualify for the semi-finals.
AUFA Beresford won their semi-final against Annan FC to meet their old foes Hearts FC in the final.
The bookies odds would have been against yet another penalty shoot out loss for the Ayr team but following a goalless final that’s exactly what happened!!
Onto the following weekend to one of Scottish Football’s oldest outposts, Stenhousemuir for their community tournament.
Two Ayr teams made the journey through to Larbert to compete with sides such as Dundee United, Raith Rovers FC, Clyde FC, Montrose FC, Gala Fairydean, Hearts FC and Stirling Albion. Again, both sides competed well on the day but both narrowly missing out on semi-final stage.
All the games were close with single goal reverses, a win and a few draws involved. To be fair the Ayr teams were made up of mostly players well over the 60 year old mark and more difficult as playing in the 50-65 year old section.
