As an Academy, we aim to provide a wide variety of footballing experiences for our players. This season will see our young players begin Futsal sessions aimed at improving both their technical and tactical skills.
Played indoors, Futsal is a fast 5v5, action packed form of football which places a large emphasis on technical skill and ability in situations of high pressure. Subsequently it makes it an excellent breeding ground for football competencies that can be translated into the 11-a-side format of the game. Through an increased number of touches (12 times more than in an 11-a-side game on average), it develops a player’s close-ball skills as well as their balance, agility and co-ordination. Players find themselves in reduced-space situations and they are constantly forced to make quick decisions which demands speed of thought and quick reactions.
Sessions will start next week with our U13 squad, who will complete a six-week block followed by our U10, U11, U12 and U14 squads who will also be involved. Sessions will focus heavily on competitive games with players placed in teams to compete against each other in a mini-league format.
In addition, the Academy is presently in talks with eight other academies to establish regular competitive Futsal festivals.
