FIVE-STAR ACADEMY 20s BREEZE PAST ROVERS
Ayr United Academy 20s cruised to their Development League West victory in a row after a 5-1 win over Albion Rovers at Somerset Park.
After dominating against Clyde but missing plenty of chances in their last outing, United found their ruthless streak.
James Hilton grabbed a double,
Leon Murphy, Mark McKenzie and Luke McCowan also got on the scoresheet for Ayr.
Under-17s goalkeeper Danny Graham stepped in as cover between the sticks and the youngster did not look out of place as the whole team delivered one of their strongest displays of the season.
Head of Youth David White said: ‘The players showed a lot of energy out there and that allowed us to play well individually and as a team. The goals were shared amongst our attacking players and that was the challenge they were set after the last game against Clyde.
‘Danny deserves a lot of credit for helping us out. He stepped in because our usual 20s goalkeepers were out because of illness or injury. He played very well and his team-mates appreciated his efforts a lot. Everyone chipped in and it was a result that we absolutely deserved, so I’m delighted.’
Ayr team: Graham; Waite, Ballantyne, Griffiths, Thorburn; Faulds, Balfour; Hilton, McCowan, McKenzie.
Subs used on 75 minutes: Ecrepont, Connolly, Wardrope.
