On Sunday 11th March, Ayr United U11 Girls played their first league game of the Jo Love South West league 2018, as they hosted neighbours Cambusdoon at Ayr Academy.
The first period allowed both teams to push forward, creating many attacks from the wide spaces but it was the away side who opened up the scoring first.
That lead didn’t last long however as Karlii Kennedy then hit the back of the net thanks to a neat pass from Hattie MacKay which cut straight through the heart of the Cambusdoon team.
Ayr United goalkeeper Amy Stevenson made a fantastic save just moments later when a powerful shot was headed straight towards the Ayr goal.
United then almost took the lead when Karlii forced the keeper into a fantastic save, followed up by Brodie Letford slamming the rebound, only to watch her strike being collected up in the arms of the Cambusdoon goalkeeper.
During the second period Ayr endured a much more difficult time with Amy making a superb save just seconds in.
Megan Samson worked hard in defence executing some great tackles, but Cambusdoon proved to be too strong for United, as they headed into the final water break with a three goal lead.
Into the final period and Ayr were now the dominant side piling pressure onto the visitors, as Karlii curled a tidy shot high into the corner, to grab her second goal. Her hat-trick came shortly after when Cairney McKinley picked out Brodie to set up Karlii for Ayr’s third and final goal.
With now only one goal between the two sides, Cambusdoon ramped up the gears in the final ten minutes, to take home the first three points of the season.
