First pre-season friendly of 2018 away to Clark Drive for U15 Girls
After finishing season 2017 earning some well deserved silverware for the trophy cabinet Ayr United U15s girls played their first pre-season friendly of 2018 away to Clark Drive.
From the first whistle United were showing some impressive football on the tricky pitch conditions. Ayr exploded out of the blocks with attacking intent as Kelsie Bradley, Armani Fulton and Honour Stewart-Fairbairn all came close to opening the scoring in the first fifteen minutes.
The Clark Drive defence worked together well to break down the United attacks, but eventually Ayr created the breakthrough they had been working towards, when Kelsie Bradley slotted the ball home to then follow up shortly afterwards with a second.
As the first half was drawing to a close Lisa Forrest and Karen Malcom capitalised on tiring legs to extend Ayr’s lead further heading into the break.
The second half began in a sluggish manner as both sides struggled to gather any momentum in the wintery conditions.
The home side were looking to blast past United on the counterattack but the posed danger was quickly closed down by Sophie Shankley and Isabella Smith. The remainder of the match was an all evens affair in terms of possession and control, however with fifteen minutes left on the clock,
Ayr secured their fifth and final goal of the day from a free kick by Olivia Waring. In the closing stages of this exciting back to action encounter,
Clark Drive got the goal they deserved, thanks to a well worked team move which sliced open the United defence.
This was a great run out for the team with Lauren Hislop (pictured), Libby MacLeay and Mollie Allen all making their debuts at U15 level 11 aside football. All three girls showed grit and determination throughout to make an impact on the game and will certainly be a fantastic addition to the squad this season.
Well done to all the girls and thank you to Clark Drive for hosting us we wish you all the very best for the season ahead!!
