Community Football Centre News – 28th January

Last week’s theme across our Community Football Centres was Defending. The coaches were amazed and a wee bit scared by some of the tough tackling going on! But others showed that you can defend well without tackling – read the game and position yourself well.

Well done to all!

The centre nominated for selecting the Star Player for the week, was the 2nd session at Dundonald Activity Centre on Thursday. We are delighted to announce that this week’s winner of the AUFA Star Player Award was Robbie! Coach Bobby commented ‘Robbie excelled himself during tonight’s defending session. He showed great energy throughout the session to make as many tackles as he could. During the matches he showed no fear, although he’s not the biggest in the class, he was courageous to get stuck in and defended well for his team!’

Well done Robbie – you are a Star!

This week’s theme across all of our centres will be Control.

Here’s what Ayr United star, Alan Forrest, had to say about control:

‘Your ability to control the football, particularly with your first touch, can give you a wee bit extra time on the ball, allowing you to make that killer pass, or make a yard to get a shot away. All young footballers can practice this anywhere that they have a wall and a ball, but doing it when you have someone against you adds that extra pressure to make you even better. So get along to the Academy’s Football Centres and get playing!’

So get yourselves along to one of our centres and learn to control the ball like Alan!

Details of the centres can be found here.
