The Annual Walking Football Cup for over 50s was recently held by Stewarton Sports Centre.
The newly formed Cumnock Juniors Walking Football Team participated in their very first tournament and came through with flying colours.
Unbeaten in their five games Cumnock were runners up in the tournament which kicked off great celebrations for one veteran player in particular.
Cumnock man David ‘Winker’ Watson making his long awaited debut for Cumnock Juniors at the senior age of 64 years 11 months.
In his own words, ‘Winker’was allegedly quoted as saying how proud he was to finally make his ‘debut’ for Cumnock Juniors, to be awarded his tournament medal but even more so how he had ‘glided past’ a former senior player of renowned clubs such as Kilmarnock, Dumbarton, Berwick Rangers etc. In fact this player also managed a Scotland Under 17 side and a clue to his identity lies within a very fine head of hair although now a very light colour!
A final word on David ‘Winker’ Watson however who was temporarily transferred to Cumnock Juniors for the day along with another of his Ayr United veteran cronies Peter Ohler.
The word on the street is that Cumnock Juniors WF Club want their transfer fee of two fish suppers repaid in kind before releasing the two players back to Ayr United. ‘You coukdn’t make it up!’
