Ayrshire CollegeFootball challenge match takes place at Ayrshire College

An exciting football match took place at Ayrshire College’s Kilmarnock Campus on 21 December between the two groups of students on the National Progression Award (NPA) Sport and Fitness course.
The NPA Sport and Fitness course is delivered twice a week by fully qualified football coaches at the College’s Kilmarnock Campus and Prestwick Academy.

Ayr United vs Kimarnock
The course is delivered in partnership with Ayr United Football Academy and Kilmarnock Football Club, and is aimed at secondary school pupils interested in football.
The teams, representing Ayr United Football Academy and Kilmarnock Football Club, played 25 minute halves under the watchful eye of professional coaches from both clubs.
The winners on the day were the Ayr team, who won the match 4-2.
Ayr quickly established a two goal lead before Kilmarnock pulled one back with an expertly taken free-kick.
A perfectly weighted through ball allowed Ayr to restore their two goal advantage before Kilmarnock made it nervy by winning and tucking away a deserved penalty.
However, as the match was drawing to a close, some neat link-up play from Ayr allowed them to fashion one final chance, which was struck into the corner.
Another match is likely to be scheduled towards the end of the course.

Craig Dargo, Head of Professional Education Programmes at Ayr United Football Academy, said of his group “Unit One saw them treated as an elite youth player, Unit Two was more the coaching side of it, and Unit Three will be working within the community, coaching young kids through the community projects of the Ayr United Football Academy.

“The students are working towards an SFA qualification. So far, we’ve delivered the first part of the Early Touches 1.1 and now we’ve given each individual a certain coaching theme that they will have to replicate through coaching their peers. They’ve been great so far and seem to have really enjoyed it.”
