Football Memories – Nicknames – 18th October

On Thursday 18th October, the Football for Life group continued their Football Memories programme by delivering an event on Football Nicknames.

The event covered a World Stars XI, Funny/Tricky Nicknames, Scottish Football Nicknames and Football Clubs and their Nicknames.

Over 40 guests attended the Nicknames event, including 3 Ayr United Legends – Cutty Young, Jacky Ferguson, Davie Harkness. Ally MacLeod’s wife Faye and daughter Gail were also in attendance.

The whole event was a Quiz and was split into 4 rounds, which were as follows:

Round 1 – World Stars XI – where the participants were given the nicknames of World players and they had to guess the correct player.

Round 2 – Funny/Tricky Nicknames – in this round, the participants were shown a photograph of a player and they had to guess the nickname. One funny nickname in particular was for the player Fitz Hall, who had the nickname One Size, because it is very similar to the product description ‘One Size Fits All’.

Round 3 – Scottish Nicknames – in this round, the participants were given the nickname of a player a Scottish footballer and they had to guess the correct player. If they couldn’t get it, they were given a second clue in the form of a photograph of the player.

Round 4 – Football Clubs and their Nicknames – In the final round, the participants were shown photographs of stadiums and they had to guess the football clubs that play at those stadiums and also the nicknames of the clubs.

A great day was had by all with many a laugh and memories shared.

Our next event in the Hospitality Suite will be on Thursday 15th November, 12.30pm to 2.30pm and the theme of the event will be Ayr United Legends Cards. Please feel free to come along.
