Ayr United Football Academy entered two teams for the St Johnstone Tournament on Sunday 11th June. The AUFA Walkers (Red Strip) and AUFA Strollers (Black & White Hoops) were placed in
two groups of six teams with the winner of each section playing each other in the Final.
On this occasion neither team topped their section although the Strollers performed slightly better than the Walkers by winning one and drawing one of their five games.
The Walkers fresh from their successful Aberdeen tournament last Tuesday were brought ‘back to earth’ with a ‘bang’ by only managing a draw in their first game with Hearts.
This was a wake up call for the Walkers who produced their poorest performances for some time.
Least said about that the better!.
However, there were some positives from the Strollers who welcomed back ‘Big Bad Brad Pitt’ after a long spell of injury and the big man obliged with a couple of goals! Oh! and an ‘own goal’ to give him a ‘Hat Trick of a sort!’.
Sterling performances from John Gemmell, Graham Shirra and Joe Leonard were probably the pick of the rest!
Not a great day for the teams but another outing in preparation for the ‘Big One’ just round the corner.
The Scottish Cup will take place at Glasgow Green on Saturday 24th June with three Academy teams being entered for the National Competition.
