The Final Curtain
Following a quite exceptional day for a Scotland World Cup Winning Team celebrations carried on well into the evening. A pleasant meal was enjoyed by all at a local Frankie & Benny’s washed down by a fair number of aperitifs, followed by a few more! Only slight concern was had on the way back to the Premier Inn when Team Manager David Watson attempting to ‘slalom under a wooden fence’ ended up with a large bump ‘on his napper ’. However, all concerned were off for a good night’s sleep just before midnight and then up early for a hearty breakfast next door at The Redwood.
After exchanging handshakes and ‘man hugs’ with the Hearts contingent the Academy mini-bus set off on the long journey home to Bonnie Scotland. It has to be said that sadly one of the squad experienced ‘a little bladder issue’ 90 minutes into the journey where unfortunately traffic was rather busy. However, being an ‘innovative person’ and for the record we shall just call him ‘Fraser’ solved his little problem with the help of a new 21st century device. We shall say no more on this delicate matter! A basic lunch near Lancaster, and a few quizzes later the party sped over the border into God’s Country! A quick ‘comfort stop’ at Abington before passing through the well known East Ayrshire ‘fishing hamlets’ of Douglas, Muirkirk and Cumnock. The by now ‘much vaunted and decorated party’ arrived at Somerset Park at 6.45pm to a ‘fantastic reception’ from their thousands and thousands and thousands of fans’!
A quite magnificent weekend of football made even better by bringing the Masters Walking Football World Cup 2018 back to ‘The Home of Football!’
Just for the record it is worth a quick recap of results from the tournament for the Scotland Team.
Scotland 2 Gibraltar 0
Canada 0 Scotland 0
England 0 Scotland 0
Scotland 2 Holland 1
Wales 1 Scotland 2
The World Cup Final

It is worth noting that Holland included 4 full Dutch International and World Cup players as follows :

Superb for our Scotland Team to play against all the above players yesterday who were all on the pitch at some point together. We’ll take a 2-1 win anytime against this quality of opposition!!!
One ‘final nugget’ before ending this final World Cup Blog. Once the draw for the order of games had been made a certain Chris Johnstone wandered towards me outside the changing rooms laughing! I quizzed Chris as to what was so amusing! The answer went something like this ‘We’re stuffed’ or words meaning something fairly similar. There will be absolutely no ‘industrial language’ in this blog!! The ‘aforementioned Chris’ had just found out some of the reputations of the Dutch players above!! He quickly became known as ‘Fraser’ taken from Dad’s Army’ whose favourite catch phrase was ‘We’re all doomed!’ Yes, Chris
became ‘The Prophet of Doom within the Scotland Camp! Now the moral to this story is indeed ‘It’s never done until it’s done! Scotland World Cup Winners has a nice ring to it!! So it’s, Goodbye for now ……… until the next time of course!’
