The Academy’s new Finance team

The Academy continues to grow and like every growing business it needs experts to manage its finances. The Board is therefore pleased to announce the appointment of four volunteer accountants who will take responsibility for preparing accounts, making payments and collecting income, amongst the other many issues that arise from day to day.

The team:

Lyall Millar

The Finance team will be headed up by Lyall Millar, who is a Partner in Galbraith Pritchards, Chartered Accountants, based at 20 Barns Street in Ayr.

Lyall is a native of Ayr and has worked in the town since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1978. A mathematics graduate from the University of Strathclyde he joined Pritchards in 1988 becoming a partner on 1 January 1990. He has a wide experience of the accountancy, taxation and audit requirements for owner managed businesses and individuals, with farming and charities being particular interests. Lyall’s interests include football (he is a longstanding AUFC season ticket holder!) and curling.

The team will include three young accountants from Strathclyde University and we thank the University for introducing them.

Lee Simpson – Finance Officer – Talented Young Footballers’ Programme

Lee is responsible for controlling the finances of the talented young footballers’ programme – a key role, as we are required to raise and manage around £70,000 annually to fund the teams. Lee is a Chartered Accountancy student, training with local firm Galbraith Pritchards and joins the Academy in order to contribute to the local community while gaining valuable relevant work experience. He has a keen interest in football and currently plays for local amateur side Crosshill Thistle.

Linzi Farrell – Community Finance Officer

Keen sports enthusiast Linzi is currently in her honours year at Strathclyde University, where she is studying Accounting and Finance. She joins the Academy in the role of Community Finance Officer with the objective of gaining valuable relevant work experience by providing her financial and administrative skills to assist the young footballers involved with the Academy. Linzi can relate to the aims of the Academy as she has previously assisted in teaching classes at her local taekwondo club.

Lana McKenna – Finance Officer – Girls Youth Development Programme

Lana is currently in her final year at Strathclyde University studying for a BSc Honours degree in Mathematics, Statistics and Finance. She has taken up the role of Finance Officer for the Girls Youth Development Programme, involving preparation of monthly accounts and seeking funding opportunities to fund our thriving girls section, while simultaneously gaining an insight into accountancy and obtaining valuable work experience.

Lana also enjoys other sports and is a keen horse rider being a member of her local equestrian centre for many years.
