Walking Footballers off to Portugal
This week sees Ayr United Football Academy Walking Footballers embark on their 4th European Tour to participate in the renowned Browns’ Algarve Walking Football Cup at Vilamoura.
This will be the third occasion a team has represented Ayr United in Portugal with the other tour earlier this year having taken place near Salou in Spain.
The team flies out from Prestwick Airport on Wednesday 3rd October and will spend four days at Browns’ Sports and Leisure Club with Thursday a practice day and Friday and Saturday the main tournament days.
The six man squad includes Stuart Galloway (GK), John Crawford, David Reid, Tom Dowman, James Kirk and debutant Scott Campbell.
The team will compete in the Over 50s tournament although 4 of the squad would qualify for Over 65s events but with relatively young members Galloway and Campbell helping to bring down the average age of the squad.
Ayr have been drawn against luminaries such as Tavira (Portugal), Carnoustie Panmure and Forth Valley in a qualifying section of four. Day 1 on Friday will determine the outcome of the Saturday sections leading to the latter stages of the Champion, Plate or Bowl Awards.
A daily blog will track the progress of the team on and off the pitch which is normally well worth a read.
Portugal here we come!!
