Walking Football – Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Motherwell

The Academy Walking Football Team travelled to Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Motherwell last Wednesday to participate in the monthly league competition.

Walking football monthly matches at Ravenscraig Motherwell

The team played three tough fixtures against North Lanarkshire, Stenhousemuir and Stirling which resulted in three wins 3-0, 3-2, 2-0 respectively, with nine points accrued and eight goals scored with only 2 conceded.

This was a very respectable outcome on the day with some very good Goalkeeping, decent defending and good goals scored.

With manager Gary McLaughlin absent due to visiting the local Ravenscraig Nails and Eyebrows Salon in preparation for his acting debut veteran John Crawford took the Player Manager’ reins for the day in place of the aforementioned Film Star’s enforced absence and was very pleased with the team’s performance.
Crawford praised the players for their collective performances and also had a mention for some individuals.
Crawford was full of praise for ‘Stand In’ Goalkeeper Ian Mason who ‘Stood Out’ in goals with some terrific saves.
Debutant Chris Fleming was a ‘Stick Out’ up front and capped a great day with a ‘scoring debut’.
David Neal put in a good shift in his new role as ‘support striker’ whilst the ‘evergreen’ Callum Campbell put in an industrious performance.
David Reid, Tom Dowman, Drew Boyd and Brian Pitt kept things ticking over by using their experience whilst Player Manager Crawford was relatively solid at the back,  his assist for Stenhousemuir’s first goal apart!

On the day nine points keeps the Honest Men in a strong position near the top of the league table.
