Walking Football Super Masters World Cup

On Friday 11th May a Scotland over 65s Select Team will travel down to the University of Bristol to participate in the International Super Masters 5-a-side World Cup. Players from Ayr United , Hearts of Midlothian and Stranraer make up this year’s squad. The Ayr United & Stranraer players will set off by mini-bus for the long 8 hour road haul to Bristol whilst their more salubrious team mates from the capital city will fly down accompanied by several members of the Tartan Army! The team on this occasion will be managed by David Watson who will be ably supported by Academy Coach Jason Butler. 
The team will stay overnight on Friday before playing in a round robin league format on the Saturday. The Scotland side will play 15 minute games against England, Wales, Holland, South Africa, Canada and Gibraltar. The squad players currently play in local Walking Football Centres on a weekly basis but also compete in National League and cup Competitions on an annual basis. An official ‘get together’ took place on Monday afternoon in Ayr when the players met up for a light training session prior to the tournament.,The players representing Scotland are as follows : 

Ayr United FC : Tom Dowman, Harry Harvie, Chris Johnston, Billy Thomson and John Crawford,

Hearts of Midlothian FC : Jimmy Bremner (Captain), Davie Barr and Alan Thomson,
Stranraer FC :  : James Kirk. 

This year’s team will be hoping to go one better than last year when the Scotland Squad did impressively well by narrowly finishing Runners’ Up to the home Nation.
