Walking Football

Walking football is an ideal way for over 50s to get back playing football.

Ayr United Football Academy launched walking football back in February 2015 and has now expanded five a side games to venues in Girvan, Prestwick and Maybole due to increasing popularity. The activity allows men or woman over 50 to take part in competitive football without worrying about strains and is also a great way to meet new people.

The rules of walking football are simple: players will concede a free kick if they break into a run while slide tackling and kicking the ball above head height are also forbidden. These rules prevent players from picking up an injury while the exercise walking football provides allows players to stay healthy and acts as an alternative to the gym.

All games are organised and refereed by coaches from AUFA although rules are relaxed and there is plenty of good natured banter among players and the coaches who make the games as fair as possible.

No registration or prior booking is required so feel free to turn up to walking football games held at:

Monday – Pro Soccer, Ayr. – 12.30-1.30pm Outdoors (£4)
Monday – Carrick Academy – 6-7pm Indoors
Tuesday – Muirhead Activity Centre – 8-9pm Indoors

Wednesday – Queen Margaret Academy, Ayr. 6-7pm Free
Friday – Caledonian Boys Club Prestwick 12-1pm Outdoors £4

Walking football will be established if interest is strong in particular area.
