Allan sparks u16s bounce-back against The Buddies!
Ayr United V St Mirren U16 Match Report by Karen Malcolm
On Sunday morning, Ayr United Under 16s welcomed St Mirren to Belmont Academy in the CAS U16 Trophy Section. The Honest Men won 4-0 thanks to a brace from Allan and goals from McNally and McRoberts.
A positive first 20 minutes for the Honest Men saw them create several chances to challenge the St Mirren keeper. In the 23rd minute, Ayr United got their well-deserved opener as they were awarded a free kick for a foul on Hislop. Allan stepped up to take the free kick and played a great ball into the box which was headered into the top right corner of the net by McNally. Following his assist for the first goal, Allan added his name to the scoresheet in the 28th minute. The Ayr United attackers put pressure on the St Mirren back line which resulted in Allan picking the ball up just inside the box and firing it past the St Mirren keeper. Minutes before half time Ecrepont was called into action when a St Mirren cross into the box was headered down by the St Mirren number 14 however Ecrepont reacted quickly to get down and save the St Mirren effort at the bottom left corner to ensure Ayr United preserved their 2-0 lead going into half time. 4 minutes into the second half and Ayr United got a third goal. Fraser crossed a corner into the box, McRoberts reacted quickly to tap in from a few yards out. Ayr United made their first substitution in the 50th minute when Hislop, who regularly plays up with the under 16s from the under 15s, was replaced by Keenan who was also playing up from the under 15s. The second substitution came 4 minutes later when McRoberts was replaced by D Craig. The third substitution came in the 82nd minute when McArthur was replaced by McClymont. McClymont made an instant impact as he played his part in the fourth and final goal that was scored 2 minutes after he was substituted on. He dribbled past several St Mirren players and into the box where he took a shot which was blocked by the St Mirren defender however Allan was there to get the rebound and fired a great strike into the back of the net to score his second of the game.
A well-deserved victory for the Honest Men who put in a brilliant team performance against elite opposition and showed great resilience to bounce back from their disappointing result earlier in the week.
