Ayr United v Dunfermline U16s Match Report By Karen Malcolm
On Sunday afternoon, Ayr United Under 16s beat Dunfermline 3-2 in their CAS U16 Performance Games Programme fixture at Belmont Academy, Ayr.
The Honest Men had the perfect start to the game as they took the lead in just under 2 minutes. The Dunfermline goalkeeper came out to the edge of the box to get the ball however he failed to clear the ball, Cullen was there to regain possession and score into the open goal. Dunfermline got their first equaliser of the game 20 minutes after Ayr opened the scoring. Good play in the midfield by Dunfermline led to the ball being played into the left side of the box, their player met the ball just inside the box and his effort went into the right-hand side of the net. Ayr took the lead again 11 minutes before half time when Fraser’s free kick from the left was met by McNally in the box who headered the ball into the back of the net. A great delivery by the right back and a solid header from the defender gave the home side a 2-1 lead going into half time. Ayr made their first substitution of the game 6 minutes into the second half when goal scorer Cullen was replaced by Milliken. They made another substitution 22 minutes later when Allan was replaced by Smyllie. Dunfermline scored another equaliser to tie up the game again in the 80th minute when their number 5 saw that Ecrepont was out of his net and fired an effort from just inside his own half. Ecrepont attempted to run back into his net but narrowly missed the ball when reaching to try keep the defenders shot out of the net. Ayr continued to push for a well-deserved winner, and they got it in the 88th minute. The Honest Men were awarded a free kick 20 yards out after Milliken was fouled. Fraser stepped up to take the free kick and fired it into the top right of the net to give his team the victory.
Another great win for the under 16s which was well deserved following another fantastic team performance from the Honest Men.
