Goals galore from Ayr United 16s!

Ayr opened the scoring 9 minutes into the game when Fraser played a great corner into the box from the right hand side which was headered into the net by McRoberts. The right back assisted another goal 7 minutes later when he played a great long ball into the net which was met by the head of Allan and headered into the net to double the home sides lead. 7 minutes later and the right back added his own name to the score sheet. Ayr were awarded a corner on the left hand side which was taken by Fraser and went directly into the right hand side of the net. Allan got his second of the game in the 35th minute when he took a free kick 20 yards out which went into the top right hand side of the net. The home side got another a minute before half time when Watret put pressure on the St Johnstone defence in the box which paid off for him as he won the ball and put the ball in the back of the net. United went into half time having dominated the first half with McNally, McClymont and Donnelly all having chances that were saved by the St Johnstone keeper and Ferguson watched his effort from the edge of the box hit off the underside of the crossbar but failed to cross the goal line. Ayr made a substitution at half time when Fraser was replaced by Cullen. This substitution saw Watret move to the right back position. Less than a minute into the second half, McRoberts came close to scoring again. The striker took a shot from 20 yards out however it went just over the crossbar. Substitute Cullen made an impact not long after being substituted on. In the 53rd minute, Cullen saw his effort from 22 yards out go into the net. 3 minutes later, St Johnstone came close to getting a goal back when their attacker beat Ecrepont to the ball on the edge of the box and made his way to the 6 yard box. He took a shot on the 6 yard line but Ecrepont made the run back to his net and saved the visitors effort at the bottom left corner. United made 2 more substitutions in the second half when Hay replaced D Craig and R Craig replaced McRoberts. Cullen came close to scoring again in the 69th minute when McClymont played the ball into the box from the left hand side but Cullen header hit off the crossbar. 20 minutes before the end, St Johnstone came close to scoring again when their player took a shot from 20 yards out however his effort went just past the right hand post. In the 85th minute, substitute Hay got his first of the game. Good play between R Craig and McClymont let to McClymont having a shot . His effort was blocked however Hay was there to put the rebound into the net from 10 yards out. In the 90th minute of the game, Watret was tripped in the box twice by a St Johnstone player which resulted in Ayr being awarded a penalty by the referee. Linton stepped up to take the penalty and scored it into the bottom right corner of the net, sending the keeper the wrong way. A minute later and Hay got his second goal of the afternoon. R Craig played a great ball into the box from 25 yards out on the left which was met on the edge of the 6 yard box on the right hand side by Hay who put it through the keepers’ legs and into the net.
