On Sunday morning, Ayr United Under 16s were in CAS U16 games programme action against Partick Thistle at Belmont Academy, Ayr. 4 goals in 30 minutes from winger Cullen gave the Honest Men the victory over their visitors.
Ayr took the lead of the game after 1 min and 30 seconds. The ball was won in midfield and McRoberts flicked a back heel into space on the right-hand side of the pitch and into the path of Cullen. Cullen drove down the left wing and his effort from 20 yards far out on the right went into the left-hand side of the net. 10 mins later, United doubled their lead. Allan got past several players on the left wing and played the ball into the box. McRoberts stretched to contact the ball but narrowly missed it however Cullen was there to put the ball into the net from 6 yards out. The winger completed his hattrick 8 minutes later thanks to a great run down the left wing by Allan who crossed the ball the into the box and Cullen met it in the 6 yard and put it in the net for his 3rd of the game. In the 31st min, the ball was played to Donnelly who had made his way into space away from the Partick Thistle defence on the right-hand side of the pitch. Donnelly played the ball across the box, which was partially blocked by the Partick Thistle defender, but the ball spun into the path of Cullen who controlled it and put it into the net for his 4th of the morning. The visitors got a goal back 4 minutes before half time when the ball was played into the box and the Partick Thistle number 10 tapped the ball into the net from a couple of yards out. Ayr made 3 substitutions in the second half when D Craig replaced Hay, Hyslop replaced Allan and McDougall replaced McRoberts. Both teams created chances in the second half however the score line stayed 4-1.
The positive attacking performance from the Honest Men which saw Cullen score 4 goals ensured that Ayr got their well-earned victory over Partick Thistle.
