Hay wins it for the Honest Men!
Ayr United V Kilmarnock U16 Match Report by Karen Malcolm
On Sunday morning, Ayr United Under 16s were in CAS U16 league action against Kilmarnock. The Honest Men won the Ayrshire Derby 2-1 thanks to goals from McRoberts and Hay.
The match started openly with both teams creating a few chances, none of these were converted as both goalkeepers made several great saves to deny any scoring. In the 30th minute, Kilmarnock were awarded a penalty after McNally accidently clipped the heal of the Kilmarnock player in the box. Kilmarnock’s number 9 stepped up and scored to give the visitors a 1-0 lead going into half time. Ayr United made a substitution at half time when Cullen was replaced by Milliken. Ayr United started the second half strong and created a few chances with Fraser, Hay, Allan and McRoberts all being denied by the Killie keeper. In the 56th minute, Ayr got their well-deserved equaliser. McClymont played a brilliant ball into the box which was met by the head of McRoberts and the striker headered the ball in off the right-hand post to get Ayr back on level terms. The Honest Men got the reward for their great performance when they scored the winner in the 79th minute. McClymont played the ball into the box to Hay who controlled it and fired it into the net which resulted in him being surrounded by his team mates to congratulate him. Ayr United then made a substitution when Allan was replaced by Hislop. After only being on the pitch for a few minutes, Hislop impacted the game as Ayr United looked to finish it with a 3rd goal, two dangerous crosses into the box found his teammates. The first was met by Ferguson but his attempt at goal was denied by the Killie keeper and the second was met by McRoberts but the striker’s effort went just wide of the right-hand post. Ayr United made their final substitution when Fraser was replaced by R Craig and seen the remaining minutes of the game out.
A great team performance from the Honest Men gave them a well-deserved 2-1 win over their local rivals.
