On Sunday morning, Ayr United Under 16s were in CAS U16 league action against Inverness CT. The Honest Men beat their visitors from the Highlands 5-2 thanks to braces from McRoberts and Cullen and a goal from Hay.

Ayr took the lead with only a minute and a half on the clock. McRoberts played a great ball up the park which was tapped out wide by Hay into the path of McClymont. McClymont drove down the left wing and crossed the ball to the edge of the box where it was met by Cullen and the winger hit it first time into the bottom left corner of the net to give his team an early advantage. Ayr doubled their lead in the 17^th minute when Ferguson won the ball in his own half and started to drive towards goal. He played the ball to McRoberts who made a run in behind the Inverness CT defenders and the striker slotted the ball through the keepers’ legs and into the net. With 32 minutes on the clock, McRoberts scored again. The Honest Men were awarded a free kick 25 yards out for a foul on McRoberts which right back Fraser stepped up to take. He floated the ball into the box which was met by McRoberts who headered the ball into the top left corner from around 10 yards out. 2 minutes later and United got another. Fraser played the ball to Hay who turned and made his way past the Inverness CT player marking him and played the ball to Milliken. Milliken then back heeled the ball out to the left into the path of Hay and Hays slotted his effort from just inside the box past the diving Inverness CT keeper. Inverness CT grabbed a goal back a minute before half time. McNally and Inverness CT number 20 both went up to win the ball just inside the box, but the referee deemed that McNally had fouled the opposition and awarded the visitors a penalty. Inverness CT number 11 stepped up to take the penalty and scored it into the bottom left corner of the net. Ayr made their first substitution of the game in the 60^th minute when goal scorer Hay was replaced by Allan. In the 61^st minute, Inverness CT grabbed another goal back when their player crossed the ball in from the left which was met by an Inverness CT player on the edge of the box whose effort went into the bottom left corner of the net. Ayr responded instantly to their Highland visitors goal, McRoberts kicked off as he passed to McClymont who played a long ball up the pitch which was headered away by the Inverness CT defender. The header met McRoberts chest and the striker chested the ball to Cullen. Cullen effort rattled the crossbar however Milliken met the Inverness CT attempted clearance and played the ball to Fraser. Fraser then played it wide to Cullen on the right of the box and the wingers effort went into the net off the left-hand post to get his second of the game. Inverness CT had a few more chances with one of their efforts hitting the crossbar and another being pushed away by the fingertips of Ecrepont. Ayr made their final substitution in the game late on which saw O’Neil replace Milliken.

A great win for the Honest Men over their visitors from the Highlands.
